CATHERINE HAIGHT
IRONMAN 70.3 MAINE
FINISHER

Cathy Haight
00:00 / 01:25

Riya:Hi. Nice to meet you. So what inspired you to start doing Ironman in the first place?
Cathy Haight:Actually, my daughter!!
My daughter was a triathlete at West Point. And I really had always thought that triathlons would be fun because I liked the three sports, I love to ride my bike. I was a bike commuter. And I was a swimmer as a kid. And so I like to run so but I really didn't know about triathlons, how to do them. And they just seem very complicated to me. But when my daughter Sarah began to do them at West Point, she encouraged me to get on out there and just sign up and do one. And so I did.
Riya:That's great. What message would you say to young girls who want to do Ironman in the future or triathlons in the future?
Cathy Haight:It's excellent to start when you're young. But you don't have to be young, because I did my first one when I was over 50 .
Riya:Oh, wow.
Cathy Haight:And so I've only done one full Ironman, and I did that at age 63. So you can do these things when you're older. But it's so much better if you start when you're younger, and you can just get out there and do it. You don't have to have a splashy, expensive bike. You don't have to have the best gear or the best training. You just have to have a desire that you want to that you want to finish it. And it's a it's a great experience.
Riya:Thank you so much.
